How to Help Your Child Feel Comfortable at the Dentist’s Office

Posted .

Do you wish there was a way you could help your child feel more comfortable in the dental chair? If so, you have come to the right blog. Today, our pediatric dentist, Dr. Kathryn Leahey, is happy to discuss the ways you can help your child have a more positive and successful dental appointment. Some tips she has are:

-Use positive and uplifting words when you talk about the dental office, dental appointments, and dental treatments. If you use negative and scary words, there is a good chance your child will feel nervous.

-Hold your child’s hand during the appointment. This helps your child know you’re there, even if they can’t see you. Having that support system helps build courage and strength to get through the appointment.

-Give your child comfort items during their appointment, like their favorite blanket, their favorite stuffed animal, their favorite music, etc.

-Give your child a prize after their appointment so they have something to look forward to and so they can associate something positive with the dental office.
